If a body is in an extreme acidic state, disease, infections and damage may proliferate. The acidic condition strains the body and compels it to take minerals - including sodium, magnesium, calcium and potassium from bones and vital organs. Scientifically, PH means potential hydrogen and measures the H+ Hydrogen ions in the body -basically measuring voltage. The determination of alkaline forming or acidic forming is NOT what is taken in organic form, but what is 'left over' in inorganic matter (ie. ash) after digestion.
Refined and processed foods, sugar, artificial sweeteners, potatoes, white flour, etc result in an acidic pH. The higher the food is on the glycemic index, the more tendency that food has to acidify the body. High protein diets like the "Atkins" diet result in acid forming compounds (as well as a large input of toxins if you are not eating natural meats and dairy). You can be acidic and not know it!
Factors that Alter Your Internal pH
• What you put ON your body. Personal care products - make sure you read the ingredient list.
• What you put IN your body Many foods are acidifying to the body. For instance, all soda pop has a pH of 2.5 to 3.2 (neutral is 7.0 - this is also roughly where your internal pH should be). For every 8 oz. of soda pop you drink, you need to drink one gallon of neutral pH water to counteract this acid!! You can not lose weight or get healthy if you drink soda!
• The air you breathe. Smoking, whether by 1st or 2nd hand smoke, it is one of the biggest ways to acidify the body. Both 1st and 2nd hand smoke are equal in their ability to acidify your body.
• Negative Thinking. If something irritates you, it makes you acidic. Stress acidifies your body. Prayer alkalizes the body. Music can acidify, neutralize or alkalize depending on the type.
The Biggest Acidifying Substances
1. Acetaminophen such as Tylenol.
2. Soda Pop - even the "natural" kinds.
3. Caffeine in any form - such as tea, coffee, soda. Even "decaffeinated" ones can have up to 85 mg caffeine and be labeled non-caffeinated. Check your prescription drugs for levels of caffeine - ask your pharmacist. Many drugs use caffeine to drive the drug through the cell wall.
4. Chocolate (not the dark ForeverGreen chocolate), but other brands. ForeverGreen chocolate is made without the typical unhealthy ingredients and also has raw cane sugar which makes ForeverGreen chocolate slightly akalizing. Second on the list is white chocolate, and last is milk chocolate.
5. White Sugar, Splenda, Aspartame (NutraSweet). Aside from acidifying the body, these artificial sweeteners (chemicals) are host to many health conditions in the body, including the obesity epidemic. See the ForeverGreen natural sweetener Yacon for alkalizing natural sweeteners here.
6. Wheat is acidic. Spelt is a great alternative, as it is 100 times less acidic than wheat.
Myth: We can get all the nutrition we need if we eat well.
WRONG! Today's foods are nutrient depleted, and they come from depleted soils. Processed and manufactured foods would have to be eaten at the rate of 10,000 calories a day just to meet minimum RDA requirements for basic nutrition. The only way to get adequate nutrition and alkalization is to supplement with superfoods or whole food concentrates (like FrequenSea, raw organic milk, raw organic eggs, whole food concentrates, etc.) along with eating healthy meals.
There are some very effective ways to help normalize your body pH. You can change your pH just by altering the foods you eat, however, you would need to eat a great deal of raw vegetables to accomplish this. It is definitely advisable to alter your diet, but you will need some extra help against the major acidifying substances in our lives.
