Frankincense

Frankincense (Boswellia cateri)
Also called: Frankincense tears, Olibanum
Frankincense Parts Used: Resin from the Tree
Since time immemorial, frankincense has been
used for religious and medicinal purposes

During ancient times, frankincense wes considered more valuable than gold. It has been traded for at least 5000 years. Ironically, it is but a milky-white resin produced by a scrubby, unlikely looking tree, genus Boswellia. Today, as in years pass, frankincense, regardless of its origin, is a valuable commodity. It's pure essential oil selling for up to a dollar a drop on the streets. It is the "mother" of all essential oils.

Throughout history, Frankincense, has been used to promote a healthy immune system, assist the body in healing itself, renew cells, fight off infections, and used as a mood enhancer, tonic, astringent, and disinfectant.

It is especially usefull to the respiratory system during seasonal changes and aids in coughs, excess mucous, colds, flu, and parasites.

It is excellent for use with stress related conditions and anxiety, due to it's ability to have a calming effect on the nervous system, by crossing the blood-brain barrier.

Used primarily in aromatherapeutic ways, it is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and a diuretic. Medical research into the Boswellic acids have shown it to be effective in killing cancer cells, antitumoral and in treating osteoarthritis.
